Does any one have any advice on setting up a Clarke CBS45 bandsaw.

High firm against the blade should the bearings be?

I seem to either snap blades or the blade suddenly jaws in the bearings.

Thanks for the helpful link and for giving some indication of its content. Whilst I take for granted the good intentions of those who post links on this site, I do like to have some idea of what is in the bag I am about to put my head into and have often been reluctant to click on a link where there is no indication of what it does. I have no doubt this has meant going without useful information on occasion and should appreciate others following your example.

Did your saw come with a manual because it tells you how adjust the bearings, it will require you to do a google search but if you enter your make and model no the information will appear.

                The manual is here:

The manual isn't too bad, but I'd suggest using both together!

                  Hi Chris,
This is not related to blade tracking but it may help you to set it up to cut square in the vertical plane. This is a very simple tool I made from some 1/4" square bar. It clamps onto the blade to allow it to be aligned with a set square held against the base.blade setting tool.jpg

                  Les.

Thanks for that. I have a very early version with imperial threads and despite looking through the manual twice I couldn't find anything on setting the bearings.

the tool is a good idea, I'll make one later!

These saws where originally designed in USA for one of the large retail chains in the late 1940s, 1950s, maybe Sears or similar. Ian S C

I read the guide and slackened the bearings off to 0.15mm clearance. It cut through (very slowly) 6" aluminium bar with a 12tpi blade.

I find that big aluminium bars seem to take for ever to cut, my blades are usually finer than your 12 tpi, so I suppose that the teeth get clogged. One thing you can do is walk away, it won't go any faster, but just before you get back there's an all mighty crash, and the end falls off, and lands on something you didn't really want it to land on.

It seems to be working well now, the down pressure is at maximum and it cut through a 6" aluminium bar ok.

                            Took a while though.

I've changed the blade on mine and it's fine now! It was cutting fine when I used it a couple of hours ago so not really sure what could have happened to it in the time!
