No doubt Diane will agree with my suggestion to contact the Sentinel Drivers Club, for info.

The earlier picture of a six wheeler on solids is not a S type. More likely a DG. Some later DGs probably ran on pneumatics, either converted or original factory fit.

The S types were a sophisticated vehicle with shaft drive, fast and nearly silent. H P Bulmer ran a S6 throughout WW2, delivering their Cider, since its fuel was coal/coke rather than petrol or diesel fuel.

In the late 50s / early 60s, when an Apprentice at the Sentinel works, (then owned by Rolls Royce Oil Engine Division) some spares for Sentinel Waggons were still held.

Sadly, we were given the job of binning all the Sentinel films. Somehere I kept a negative of a DG6 named "Spaceater", carrying what looks like a Henry Seagrave Speed Record car.

Have a scan of the print on my computer even now. Poor quality since it was a 18 x 24 negative, on grainy cine film.

As far as I know, only one S8 still exists; a beautiful vehicle.

On page 86 of "An Album of Sentinel Works Photographs" by Anthony R Thomas, there is a picture of WN9752, as originally supplied . Unusually, the location appears not be the frequently used one for photos, the layby, in front of the Sentinel Village, across the road from the works.

The caption to Fig 176 reads:

"This is one of only nine S6s that have survived in to preservation. No 9242, WN9752 was new to A T David Ltd of Morriston , Swansea, in April 1936, fleet number 12.They sold it to Midland Tar Distillers Ltd of Oldbury in 1944.  Les Lamb of Bromsgrove , Worcestershire bought it 1956 and sold it straight on to the Matthews Brothers of Thornhill, Ontario where it still resides (2009). The trailing rear axle referred to in Fig 173 can clearly be seen in this side view although only fitted with single wheels"

Fig 173 showing a tilt sided flat bed S6 included a comment "Many S6s including this one, were supplied with a trailing, non driven, rear axle to save weight. Other examples can be seen on Figs .155, 166 and 176"

Fig 155 showed 9060, originally registered to Sentinel Waggon Works as UJ3151, but sold to W Whiting of Abergavenny, painted for a contract to Ebbw Vale Brick Company.. W Whiting also bought the sixth S8 built, 9136 WO8854, new on 6th October 1934, to serve the same contract. This seems to have a double drive rear bogie, with twin wheels (My comment)

Fig 166 shows 9139, UJ3810, a high sided tipper for B Young of Bermondsey, in 1932..

Figs 161 and 162 show 9105, (UJ3562), in two different liveries; the only S8 out of the nine built that survives.

This appears to have a single drive axle(My comment)

It was first used as a demonstrator before passing through various owners. Edmond Shone of Mill Hill restored it from a derelict chassis . It was eventually sold to Bryan Richmond -Dodd of Ascot in 1988.

Hope that some of this is of some help.
