Hi there,I am new to this so please make allowances.

I have a axminster mini mill I believe it to tbe a seig x1.

The problem is the mill wont start,when I select forward or reverse and turn the speed pot all that happens is the unnormal amber light comes on.The mill was fine when I last used it the motor has not been stallled and the fuse has not been blown.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

has it got a swarf guard around / in front of the chuck, with a safety interlock microswitch on it?

there is know swarf guard and I cant see a micro switch,the machine has been working fine until yesterday.When I try to start it the amber unnormal light comes on and the green power light stays off.

I have one of these which is being CNC-converted.  I’ve used it a few times and once or twice had the same problem.  I didn’t find a way out, just kept trying.  You could try disconnecting it from the mains, waiting a few minutes and re-trying.  The speed controller is going to be replaced during the conversion!

Does the fault light come on as soon as you select forward or reverse, or after you have rotated the speed pot?

 

 The fault light comes on on mine if you select forward or reverse with the speed pot turned so that the integrated switch is operated.

 Sorry to grab the thread but what are you replacing it with  ?

A KB Electronics one that I bought a while ago together with a very nice motor from ModelMotors Direct.  Plan to use the motor too, but with adjustment the speed controller would drive the original X1 motor – I think the X-series Mills forum has had some details.  From what I hear many people have to replace the drive sooner or later so I thought I’d save the bother!
