      Hello Dias,

Just a comment about the the Font.

Some time ago, we discussed this problem and I thought you had found a work-around.

I guess that Norman is reading your posts on an iPad, or similar.

Comic Sans [being a Microsoft font] was not licensed for use on the iOS, and therefore HTML uses "Font Substitution" … Unfortunately, Comic Sans is declared [by Microsoft] as a "Cursive" font, and the Apple substitute for Cursive is almost illegible.

Common sense would indicate that "Comic Sans" is "Casual" not "Cursive" … and if it had been declared thus, there would be no problem … Apple includes a legible "Casual" font in the iOS.

Hope that helps; and apologies for taking the thread off-topic.

With reference to reading the font on an iPad, it needs to be zoomed in to make it legible, and then the color make me cross-eyed.

          Diaz,
If you can make it the font black, that would help, or change it if possible.
I admire your perseverance, and grasp of English.

How did you do that post within a post?
Thought my iOS had done a W on me.

            Dias,

Your English is fine, have seen much worse from Englishmen! Remember, the forum is for advice, not instructions (unless you're JS), just wanted to make sure you had all the options in mind before you made your decision.

My view is that if you had a good look at the Aldi grinder/sander, you wouldn't like it

You reminded me about your bike, and the battery problems you mentioned in an earlier post.

                1. Opened the relevant post on my v1 iPad
                2. Zoomed-in to the area of interest
                3. Screen Grab [briefly press the Sleep Button and the Home Button, together]
                4. Opened in PS_Express App, and cropped the image
                5. eMailed it to myself [cannot put photos into the forum from v1 iPad]
                6. Opened the eMail on my iPod Touch [which runs iOS 6] and saved the image.
                7. Logged onto forum and inserted image into my "Odds" album
                8. Inserted image as a photo, into my posting

                      Hello all,

One of the sanders I may buy is a Chronos/Clark one. See here **LINK** and then find CLARKE BELT & DISC SANDER (Ref: CS46D). Chronos sells packs of sand belts and sand discs to that machine but, as the sander is sold for wood, perhaps that belts and discs are not useful with metals. Does anyone know if they are?

That's the one I've got. The belts appear to be aluminium oxide (emery) and work very well on steel.

                          Hello Neil,

Finally, after several days Chronos told me they don't export grinders or sanders to Portugal and so I looked for an alternate supply. Remembering your post I asked MachineMart about exporting to Portugal and happily they do so.
So I thank you for your suggestion.

After all this, I hope you are happy with what you get! I spent an evening digging out toolholders and other parts made from drawn bar with flat, unfinished sides, and brining them to a 'draw filed ' appearance on the grinder. I also found it very easy to put neat rounded corners on as well.

Sanding belts – Aluminium Oxide are fine for both metal and wood, but for superior performance and longer life on metal go for "Zirconia" belts

                                  Hello Phil, good morning.

I thank you for your help.

Your information is precious and comes in the exact moment I am deciding what discs and belts to order from MachineMart.
I can't find ready made Zirconium “Zirconia” discs or belts expressly for the Clark CBS1-5 belt and disc sander.
I searched for Zirconium sanding rolls and found some suppliers. However, as I never tried to glue a sand belt I'm not sure about this way. Found **LINK** some successful experience and perhaps I'll try it later.

                                    Hi Dias

I have the Chester version of this machine – it uses 30in x 1 in aluminium oxide belts -and they last a long time! As far as joining goes I think it would be a very difficult task. The joint is scarfed – that is each end is tapered in thickness so that, when joined together, there is no increase in thickness of the belt at the joint. This is important otherwise as the joint comes round there will be a "clunk" as it passes. I doubt that it would be possible to achieve a fine finish on your work in those circumstances.

After reading your post I re-started searching and found there are some companies offering special made belts. Perhaps later, when the ones I'm going buy now will fail, I'll find some company able to make new ones covered with Zirconium…
