I bid g;day to all, as a new member, retired Marine Engineer I have no aspirations as yet for models to build but interested in suggestions. Presently involved in refurbishing a vintage 1949 ML7 from the ground up. Surprisingly very little wear despite age, machine marks still visible on most of the ways. Once up and running then learn how to use as previous experience goes back to Tech School days. Am also looking for a small milling machine to broaden that experience. Lots of info from MEW and members knowledge.

Hello Seamus and welcome to this excellent forum. As you probably know, if you have any questions then just ask.

For a marine engineer, I'm not sure if the Stuart triple expansion engine might be a good idea for a model, but perhaps something simpler to start off with?

Hi Seamus welcome to the forum. Same vintage as my Myford M Type lathe and just a bit older than me. I have a small Chester mill 16 V and it does me ok.

Do you prefer to go by Tas or Seamus?

Share some pics of your lathe, it sounds a good one!

Pleased that we have another antipodean member.

Ask and ye shall receive! Probably conflicting advice depending upon our prejudices! But ask anyway, and then sift the wheat from the chaff.

You'll find a lot to interest you on here, anyway.

                        Good day, Seamus,

                        Welcome.

Have a look at the Myford web-site. All the illustrated parts lists (aka 'exploded diagrams ) for their lathes are there in down-loadable form. It's easy to go on-line each time you need them or you could download so you've got the ones you need on your computer in case the Myford site is unobtainable in the future.

Once you've done that and studied the exploded diagrams for your ML7, please clarify which pulleys you need.

                        Best regards,

                        Swarf, Mostly!
