Hi folks!

Before i am planning to make a new boiler. There is 2 things i am looking for: Dry back Scotch boiler or wet back Scotch boiler.

I know the wet back Scotch boiler is better, but which of these boiler is practical and safe enough to use?

I am afraid if there is leakage in wet back Scotch boiler who make more difficult to repair.

Has someone here builded or owner a dry back or wet back Scotch boiler and can tell how practical and reliable the boiler can be in a lot of year?

ME 3477 has an article on model scotch boilers, page 1122

The author recommends the dry-back version because any problems can be repaired after completion

I has designed and calculated the Scotch boiler with dry back and got results:

100 mm diameter boiler with 50 mm furnace and 29 tubes of 8 mm flue tube, total length of boiler except smoke box in both sizes. The furnace is without calloway.

Heating surface: 1328,3 cm2

Total volume: 0,66 liter (not amount of water, boiler only)

Is it a good boiler and will it run a Stuart D10 in a tugboat? Ceramic burner or blowlampe is recommended to use in the boiler.?

I has Southworth waterpump to keep waterlevel in the boiler.
