It sounds as though the Sandown organisation has improved out of all recognition. I have, in the past made two attempts to attend. The first, from Oxford was totally ruined by the totally useless traffic ‘plods’ in Esher High St allowing outside lane queue jumpers to cut across the show traffic in the inside lane. Took well over an hour to get off the St. I tried again, two or three years later, travelling from Addlestone – absolute nightmare, such that when the ‘plods’ directed us AWAY from the entrance to go on to the roundabout and come back from the other way, I went home and vowed NEVER to try again. I now get my fix at Ally Pally, the only downside being the climb up the hill (probably good for me!) and my inate ability to get lost in the local streets!!

I stayed quite late, but I didn’t hear a jet engine…  I presume that this was something to do with the GTBA guys?

(edit – whoops! wrong day. )

What happened with the boat pool? I saw it being emptied Saturday lunchtime, someone on another board mentioned the inevitable ‘health and safety’, surely not?

            Hi There
When the pool was assembled, a washer was put in back to front causing a small leak.
I believe Sandown said it had to be emptied as it was a health and safety issue.
It was a great crowd puller while it lasted.
Next year, we will be putting it outside.
            regards David

An excellent show , we went on the saturday got there at 11 no trouble parking close to the steps, well organised show with plenty of space to move around and to look at the exhibits.
Well done to Dave and his team.

New to this Model Engineering lark so have not visited this type of exhibition before. Was very impressed with the show and all the exhibitors. Will put into next year’s diary. However I don’t know where other exhibitions have been held in the past other than hearing both Sandown and Ascot being mentioned as used in the past. As I am a great believer in public transport I do wish to ask the question – why the SE?  Demographically is the SE the hub of the model engineers or do you have exhibitions in the north at other times of the year? I’m not complaining as I don’t live in the north (or London) but I did find that Esher is not best served by public transport unless you live on the Waterloo – Salisbury line and even then it is only served by stopping services. Ally Pally next month will be a doddle in comparison. Was just wondering whether other places more towards the midlands well served by cross country services had ever been considered?

This is not a complaint just some thoughts as I’m not aware of how many exhibitions take place and their spread across the country. However I’m bracing myself for the replies!

Best wishes and glad so many enjoyed the exhibition as much as I did.

Barry Q. Welcome to our friendly [usually] community of modellers (various). Sandown is THE  ME Show but there are others around the country, Ally Pally, Bristol, Harrogate and the Midlands Show. Different sponsors. In addition, various club sponsored shows like Guildford MES. Read Model Engineer mag and see the dates.

Just to keep the record straight, the Bristol Exhibition is not commercially sponsored, its just a club event. The dates for the next one are August 20th, 21st and 22nd. Looking forward to seeing our usual supportive traders and clubs and to receiving entries for good quality models from individual model engineers.
