I bored the hole in the centre the size of the biggest drill which the chuck would take and left the rest of the table flat.  It’s worked perfectly like this for quite a few years now.

              Hi Ken,

You do not say what model of rotary table you are using. Does it have degree graduations around the periphery of the table that you could use? If so, mill the first slot at the 0 degree setting, 2nd slot at 45 degrees, 3rd slot at 90 degrees etc until all eight slots are completed.

If not, more details on your particular rotary table would be helpful!

              Regards, Martin.

Hi Martin….Thank you for your message….You have been more than helpfull, yes it is marked by degrees and as you so rightly point out, so it’s every 45 degrees, great stuff ….I never was much cop at maths….Best Regards Ken.

                  Hi Ken,
for some advice on using the rotary table, try this link:

                                          http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/projects/rotarytable/UsingARotaryTable.pdf

Incidentally, GHT’s method for the slots was to drill a hole at each end of the slot and then mill out in between them.  Of course, this may be teaching Granny——-.

Sometimes its quicker, and less messy, to chain drill between the holes and just clean up the slot with the mill.

                  Cheers

Thanks Robbo for that link. Curious, I went to the Arceurotrade site, then Projects & Articles hoping there may be more topics but could not find them. Trying truncated listings got a

Are there other gems of info like this? If yes, links would be appreciated.

                      Thanks

                        Hi Dunc,

Try this link to ArcEuroTrade Projects&Articles.   There are some about the C3 lathe, Bearings for the ML7 crossslide leadscrew,  converting to CNC, etc

Funnily enough, the article about the rotary table isn’t in the projects, but in the sales area for rotary tables, as part of the description

                          Hi Ken,
Hope you look at this again.    I have just discovered whilst browsing my old MEWs (looking for something else) that Harold Hall wrote a 6-page article on “Using A Rotary Table in the Home Workshop”  in MEW no 133, page 18 et seq.   This was the famous Christmas 2007 issue, the cover of which was graced by Dave Fenner’s daughter (and a C3 lathe).
Let me know if you don’t have/can’t get this issue and we’ll sort something out.

                          Regards

                            Hi Robbo.
Thank you for your interest in my quest for help with the Rotary Table…..I have been away from the Model Engineering scene for over twenty years now, and I no longer have any access to any Engineering Mags…..Since I have now retired I am making a full comeback to the scene…..I never even knew that a “New” mag had even been released…..Any help setting up and getting back into the swing of it would be greatfully appreciated……Best Regards Ken.

Thanks for your reply. My computer’s been acting up so online sessions a bit sporadic.

Courtesy of Arc Euro Trade I downloaded the Christmas 2007 article – ie the lathe article only.
