I see that someone installing an electricity cable to a shed has discovered a Roman villa.

Since he was not an electrician will he be done for messing around with the mains?

            .

            No, probably not.

It is general and common practice for ground workers to dig the trench and at times pull the cable in for later termination by an electrician.

No he won't as there is no legislation to prevent him doing any electrical work anywhere in his house or garden, although the powers that be constantly try to make out that there is. He can even do part P work himself provided he gets oversight from his local BCO (elec) Part P states that you have to be a "competent person" That is all.

Did you know that "cable puller" is a trade? I once saw them in action at work manipulating 400 A 3 ph. cable. Real tough guys!

Do not worry, it is fairly certain that no more trenching or cable laying will be permitted on that plot again.devil

Hi Frank, well I can tell you that some of the heaviest cable I have ever put in was about 4" diameter 4 core SWA, and cable pullers would probably consider this "small stuff". It was done in winter, and it was a total b*st*rd, so I can imagine pr5o cable pullers to be built like Viking warriors!

Having seen the person in question on the TV, I can confidently say he will never be doing any digging or electrical work himself!
