      HI everyone,

I've had this rollo elf lathe for some years now. Unfortunately, I have been unable to use it as it did not have a chuck, faceplate or any tooling with it when I got it.

I was was wondering if anyone could tell me where I might be able to get a chuck or face plate from.? I've been looking on eBay for ages. I think the Spindle is 5/8 BSF thread but I have been unable to get one or find a similar lathe with the same thread size?

      Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. I assume you have already found this site, and it seems you can get some literature about your lathe. If you have – or can get centres – that fit headstock and tailstock you should be able to do some turning. If there is a club near you you may be able to get some help there to cut the required thread on a faceplate or backplate.

Wow, I am surprised it was not pedal powered! Most certainly a novel use of the Sturmey Archer as a gear box for a lathe.

The later lathes shown on lathesdotco remind me of the drives for sheep-shearing cutters or forge blowers.

I agree with Thor – if there is sufficient distance between centres, one might even be able to cut a new spindle!

A simple whitworth nut, with a tag welded on, could suffice as a very crude drive dog.

Likewise, a large nut, welded to a disc, might well suffice as a faceplate or a backplate for any suitable small chuck.
