      Good morning all.

I am still relatively new to machining, I’ve had my lathe for 3 years and my mill since earlier this year.

I decided it was time to try and build an engine, and the Standby seemed like a good starting point for a newbie. Mistakes were made and learned from, and the finish is a little tough, but I’m happy with what I have accomplished.

          Good morning Robert

I second Jason’s comment.  A very good looking engine, well done.

Thanks for your kind words gents.

I’ll take your word for how well it runs, I have nothing to compare it to so not sure what “well” looks like. I’m just glad it ran at all. 🙂

Looks good and seems to run well, you should be justly proud of your work. Noel.

Very good job, one to be proud of!

Am intrgued by the valve events.

Can inagine the drillings for the cylinder to communicate with the valve (Presumably seats on the end of the inlet tube during exhaust, but where is the exhaust passage? Drillings in the valve to carry the exhaust outsde the block?

This may help explain the inlet and exhaust arrangements. All done by flats on the crankshaft and an exhaust passage along the centre of the shaft at the crank end.

Many thanks all for your kind comments, and John a special thanks for the plans and your very informative build page, this was invaluable.

I didn’t understand how this worked until I had built most of the parts, the crank porting is indeed very ingenious.

I think I’m going to try the Gamma hot air engine next. 🙂

That looks a fun thing to build, nice job. Are there plans or links for such things?
