Hi all can anyone put me in touch with someone who would be prepared to make up a ring light for my RF25 mill/drill. I have a suitable 4 inch adapter plate .The unit could be powered from a mobile phone charger. I do not posses electronic knowledge to take on this project myself. I would to pay be happy to pay for this service provided it is not an arm or a leg.

        Thank you Bernard Reilly Glasgow,

          Hi Bernard,

There are lots of inexpensive LED lights available on ebay, including ring lights. Either 5 volt versions which will work with a USB phone charger or 12 volt versions for other power supplies. Both are low voltage units and safe to play with.

          Paul.

What a great idea, and really cheap as well.

This is what I use on my mills they are great with the magnetic base and flexible arm, they just run off a USB charger and at £7 won't break the bank https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073FGLYFR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I see Sieg have started to put USB sockets onto their milling machines for us to plug lights and bluetooth devices straight into thus freeing up a wall socket.

I prefer a light that can be moved about, if you are using a small short cutter in a ER collet chuck you will get a big black shadow from it where the ring light won't reach.

I have a Jansjo table lamp on the headstock of the SC4 – 510. They do a smaller USB version.

Not precisely what was asked for but could be interesting nevertheless; mains powered. Look at the several variants. **LINK**

Stupid cheap and even cheaper if you take the slow boat from China option.

I bought a dedicated LED magnetic work light for one of my Lathes and quite frankly the light quality is pants. No where near as good as the Halogen lamp that came fitted to my mill. I’ve since bought an Ikea Jansjo LED and that’s not too bad. Sadly they don’t sell a mag base version though so I removed the plastic base and fitted it to a spare mag base. They do sell a clip on version but it doesn’t look too durable.

I believe the request was for a ring light not a point source on a goose neck.

I used a so called Angel Light ring from EBay

I built a ring light some time ago – Angel Eyes from eBay + 3D-printed housing. However, as Jason pointed out above (and JS pointed out at the time) it does cast a shadow under some (actually many) cutters and was not nearly as useful as I expected. Plus the housing got in the way occasionally. I took it off in the end.
