      Hello, daisytwoduffs intro.

I am a retired Royal Navy engineer with experience in steam, diesel and gas (turbine) machinery up to 15,000SHP.

City and Guilds workshop tech with 1000+ hours in workshop during training.

Looking forward to retirement and creating models in my workshop with small lathe, pillar drill, hand tools and a woodworking workshop with chop saw, fret saw and hand tools.

      cheers, Daisy

Welcome aboard shipmate, spent a large part of my life working with marine, but not SHP s of that magnitude. You will find us mostly a happy bunch and if you have a question then there will usually be someone who can help. Best wishes Noel.

15000SHP!  Woof, woof, I want one!

What sort of models?  Marine I hope, the sea is under represented in Model Engineering these days.

          Whatever you do, welcome,

          Dave

Welcome aboard as Noel would say.

My most powerful marine diesel was only 400 bhp, so not in the same league

Your experience can be put to good use on here

            Howard.

I was exhibiting at Doncaster a few years ago and was placed next to a guy who had built a scale model of a marine screw drive and gearbox. He used to build the full size thing apparently.

It was a truly stunning piece of work and I wish I’d kept his details, fantastic engineer.

Hi Daisytwoduffs, in your Gallery, you are asking about the shaft at the rear of your lathe with the two straight gears, this it the back gear. which slides to mesh with the two gears, on the spindle, but you will need to slacken off the nut on the bull wheel at the chuck end, to disengage the spindle from the drive. There seems to be a bit of a write-up about the one you have, and quite a few photos when you scroll down the page on Colchester Small Lathes 1908-1931

                    Regards Nick.

In your gallery??? You are lucky anyone saw it.

Best only to post questions in a new thread so they are seen and use the gallery for pictures that need a long term exposure – like models in progress. To add pictures to a short life questioning thread you can click on the picture icon just above the box you are typing in and can then drag and drop pictures from your computer file manager.

Hi, I agree with Bazyle, I only looked at it, because my new Gallery photo happen to be placed to the left of Daisy’s one.

                        Regards Nick.
