      Hi all,

I have recently purchased a pre-owned Myford MG9 cylindrical grinder. I will post photographs and information on the restoration of this machine for reference for anyone that may need information for a similar project.

I haven't yet managed to locate any workshop manuals for this machine, but the disassembly and cleaning was fairly straight forward.

      Steven

Most of the parts separated from the main body. Next job, to pull apart all of these assemblies.

You will not regret owning a cylindrical grinder when your restoration is complete. In a moment of madness over twenty years ago I bought a J&S 1310 at a local auction. It's a beast to have in a home workshop, much underused and probably not really justifiable and its power frightens me but finishing to within a couple of 10ths is as easy as falling off a log.

I have one of those too, they are not at all common.

Looks like you have a bit of wear in the long ways and they would benefit from a light scrape. Luckily these machines were very evenly but looking at the smear marks on your ways just a go-over with a scraper will improve your oil retention and limit stick-slip in the table.

It;s a shame about the busted infeed handwheel but at least it's not the table traverse one. If you have the bits it should be a fairly easy repair.

Do you have any other bits apart from what's in the photos? Mine came with internal grinding head and a small steady rest.

I had the use of a cylindrical grinder at work. The only homework I did on it was converting those abominable expanding reamers to expanding mandrels.

Over 2 1/2 years since Steven Van der Watt posted the last update above, which was also his last post.

A lot has happened since then, so an update may not be forthcoming.
