Hi, I'm trying to put the original single phase motor back on to myford ml7 but I can't find the retaining clips, can these be bought? If yes would you send me the link please.

I've tried searching but I can't find the item, maybe I'm using the wrong description.

            Have you tried contacting Myford?

I haven't actually thought about that. I didn't consider this to be a solely myford problem just a motor issue.

I'll give them a call later.

I'll be surprised if any one sell them, not many fail or get lost, tricky things to make. If you need the rubber/ plastic replacement resilient mountings, I suggest you go to your local motor factors and have a look. at their selection of exhaust mounts.

I think hes refering to the clamp /clips with the nuts on that go on either end to fix the motor onto the cradle. Like in this thread.

Hi Tony, The rubber sleeve you will not find at a motor factors, and it is unlikely You will get the clamps from myford. There were numerous makers of motors with resilient mounts. Brooks, Hoover Etc. A motor rewind specialist is your best bet. Try yellow pages or the modern equivelent ! Good Luck, Noel.

I have a complete mount from a Hoover brand motor which might solve your problem; the between centres distance clip to clip is about 218mm.

PM me if you want to pursue this.

Ega, you are correct with the bits, it's just the clips that I need, I've put mine somewhere safe…… 😂 Can't recall where it is though so I consider them lost.

Strange, I got my resilient rubber mountings from one of our local motor factors, and I have couple of spares hanging up in my workshop.

The rubbers provide a resilient mounting to isolate the vibration from the single phase motor from the rest of the machine, and to reduce noise.

                              Bodger's methods!

If the rubbers for the single phase motor have failed, probably because of oil contamination over the years) you could try an O ring of suitable size section. Cut to length to fit the groove.

The material of the O ring may well have better oil resistance than the original.

The clips are unlkely to be available, especially since they were probably made to Imperial dimensions, rather than the current Metric

. I had a motor with a top half clip missing. I made a replacement.

Not difficult. possibly; half and hours work. The bottom half of the seat for the rubber is in the motor mount, so you only need to make the top half.

It may not be quite as pretty as the original, but it is only required to do the job, unless you mean to enter the motor in a concours d'elegance!

If you want the clips,I suggest we deal with this via PM and/or email; I would need your address of course which I am assuming is in the UK.

An alternative retaining clip could be made from a Jubilee clip in an emergency.

Is it just a strip of curved metal with a right angle bend and bolt hole at one end, and a slot near the other? Not too difficult to sort out (at the second or third attempt, maybesmiley) if it is.

I expect the second one was easier than the first? Next time you might just make them together! Just confidence and experience (I might well make three – one as a quick trial, then two together).

Still a job well done, all the same.

Have you tried high modulus silicone sealant? squirt it into the rings, let it set off.
Lightly grease any parts you don't want stuck.
