I recently acquired a used, import mill, but it is missing a handwheel. I’d rather purchase a replacement wheel than build one from scratch. The backside of the old handle had three little projections (like little teeth) sticking out. Where can i find a replacement wheel with these features? Most of the ones i see online only use a keyway to lock it to the shaft, which isn't what this unit uses.

What machine is it. Some of the spares particularly for X axis handles have dog teeth on them so the handle can be disengaged

Do you have picture? It's quite difficult to visualise your description

Just because they have a keyway doesn’t mean you have use a key! Screw in some appropriate unthreaded studs (could use bolts and cut the heads off), of the appropriate size and in the appropriate places and you are “go”.

Handwheels should be availoable from most importers.

Arc Euro and Chester offer handwheels, and would be surprised if Warco could not be able to supply.

Just measure the shaft diameter and length of engagement and then you are ready to start looking for a wheel of a diameter that takes your fancy. If it involves a key way, measure that as well, to add to your specification..

I had a tatty Clark CMD1225 round column mill that used these hand wheels with the three protrusions. The same mill is sold with many manufacturers badge on it, Warco, Draper, Nutool, Pinnacle to name but a few.

Axminster also sell it, I think their model is the ZX30M

I replaced two of the handles on mine prior to selling it on with parts from Axminster, though they are not particularly cheap, about £15 each IIRC and Axminster quoted a 20 week lead time! In fact they were a little quicker but not much. I ordered them just before Christmas 2019 and they arrived this March

Prior to ordering from Axminster, I searched the net for spares for every manufacturer I could find without luck.

That is the standard Warco etc round column mill so they are common but generally attached to their mill. The fixing screw you have was originally a roll pin, not a taper pin so there is a through hole in the shaft but this is just to hold the handle on. The drive however is taken through the dog clutch.

They aren't that common on ebay but may come up from someone converting to CNC.

I suggest while looking for one you make a simple crank handle and secure by drilling a slightly large hole aligned as best you can with the aforementioned through hole but only one side, then put on shaft and drill a tight hole through the shaft hole into the other side of the handle.

The other thing of course is don't bother because quite soon you will decide to make a power feed on one end of the x axis.

I still have mine from before CNC conversion. What is the shaft diameter on the handwheel is to fit?

PS. I also have an Align powerfeed from before CNC conversion.

I believe it is 5/8” shaft diameter.

I've checked the bores on the three I have got and they are 17.1mm to 17.2mm.
