In a moment of foolish inattention I managed to scrape the plastic mudguard trim on my nearly new car whilst backing out of my garage. The scratches are probably no more than 0.5mm deep but do not look good. Any ideas or recommendations for products that might improve the situation?

Try googling bumper repair in your area. There are loads of companies that do plastic weld auto repair. It seems to be a similar market to windscreen chip/ paint chip type outfits.

Look up Chipsaway, they sorted out minor damage to my sons car for very reasonable cost

Mick, what did you do eventually. I suffered a scrape to the lower edge of the front wing in the supermarket car park. As it was so slight, decided to put the repair off as it did not look so bad but then I turned a bit tight into my local garage car park and made a real mess of things, requiring a new front door. It was recommended that a new plastic sill strip be fitted at a cost of £171 + VAT which I declined. Now deciding if to have a go at removing quite deep scratches or fit new sills with running boards at a cost of £165 for the pair

              Ray.

Ray….I am going to get a quote from Chipsaway and a couple of other local scrape experts on Monday. I will post results.

                  Oh dear!

Pride in a new purchase is normal but why does a scratch on a plastic part cause so much concern?

It's just a car – designed to get one from A-B safely and efficiently.

My 23 year old Ford 4WD has crossed the Nullabor, traversed the Gun Barrel and Bruce highways and the ARB bull bar has bowled over a few roo's, camels, wombats, foxes, rabbits and whatever.

I am NOT proud of this as native Australian animals are special.

I have a spare vehicle now but 'Feral Ford' still sits proudly in the driveway complete with a bullet hole in the bonnet.

                  Don't be so picky.
