I have an Myford industrial stand with lovely control panel, but sadly speckled with decorator's dulux some time ago. What would be safe to use to remove these spots?

The edge of an expired credit card, or any similar plastic item with a cut edge. The edges do degrade quickly, but the plastic is gentle on the underlying paint. Use it as a scraper.  Finish off with T-cut if needed.

I once had to remove hundreds of wind blown spots of paint this way that had landed on the cars in a garage forecourt.

Some time back I acquired a Myford super 7. This had been owned by a car restorer and was covered in overspray, so much so that I thought the lathe was grey, it was in fact green. I used something called Astonish oven paste. This, though a little aggressive if used too vigorously worked a treat. Finished with some car polish it came up as good as new, well almost. A raid on Swmbo's cleaning cupboard may reveal some, or the Pound shop. I am sure some of the car paint supply shops polishing compound will work just as well.

That sounds like an add on ebay a few years ago.

Refurbished lathe from a 'school'. All bright blue and new looking except they had spray painted everything in one go including lead screw, bed and chuck.

Methylated spirit will dissolve emulsion paint – albeit slowly.

I too had a car covered in paint spots – they were painting the car park where I'd left it. And where was this?

                  Paignton.

I scraped them off with a finger nail. Took a long time.
