      Hello,

I have a Reilang Oil Can that I use for dispensing slideway oil.  The reservoir seal has become very soft and squidges out with minimal tightening.  Any suggestions for a suitable material that I can make a replacement from?  I’m guessing the original washer was not of a suitable spec.  I have considered a bonded, or “Dowty” washer (albeit a bit of overkill), but I fear the reservoir face is unsuitable as the hole has some ovality, which may cause the seal lip to drop onto it.

        Why not red fibre?

Thanks guys, with a little care I’m sure I can cut a serviceable leather washer.  Any idea where I might source a 32 x 40mm fibre washer?

I’ve seen PTFE washers for Reilang oil cans, but I think they may not be compliant enough for the application.

I’ve replaced all my original Reilang O rings with Dowty washers. I have about six oil cans and the Dowty seals perfectly.

Thank you James, I wasn’t sure if a Dowty washer would work.

A green fibre central heating pump washer worked for me.

Thanks for the suggestion Phil, I found a fibre CH pump washer with 31.25mm I/D which was a perfect fit.  It looks and works fine at present, but I guess only long term will tell?  If this is useful to anyone else, check the size, because I found they’re not all the same.

                      Thank you James,

What size and type did you get?

I have measured threads on my Reilangs (all leaking…) and O/D is around 31.4mm

Don’t seem to be able to find 32mm ones?

Hi Chris, Dowty washers are made in TYPES of size eg BSP, JIC and no doubt metric to suit the fittings in these sizes. 1″ BSP is to fit pipe at 33.2 Might work. Good luck. Noel.

It seems indeed that 1″ BSP is the only choice I have

Just to confirm (in case anyone ever finds this thread looking for a solution)

1″ BSP Dowty washers are working perfectly on my Reilang cans

                            Thank you for suggesting it.
