I am currently in possesion of my father-in-law's steam locomotive. It was built by him, probably in the early '60s, and is of 2.5" gauge. The locomotive has not run from many years, probabaly since the '70s. I am searching for someone who would be interested in restoring this steam locomotive to working condition. The moving parts have been oiled and all seem to move. If there is anyone who would be interested in this restoration project, please let me know through this thread. From some initial reseasrch I understand it may be a 2.52 gauge model of "Purley Grange"

Concerning this locomotive, I would be happy to send photos as it was when in steam and also the condition it is in now, I have not been able to work out how to upload photos to the forum from my photo folder.

            Hi Jeremy,

Sorry you haven't had a reply. I guess most of us would be a bit wary of taking on someone else's engine, especially as the boiler will certainly need a good thorough check and then testing and certification.

I think Lynx Model Works and other ME advertisers will do the sort of thing you ask. they have a link in the panel to the left of this message.

There is a chap advertising on eBay who says he does rebuilds. Search ‘ steam engine’s’ and troll through the adds

                Hmm,
I caertainly would not like to undertake a restoration like this you never know what can of worms will be found, Try the Ebay guy but at such a small scale he might not be interested.

                Good Luck

Jeremy, you may need to reduce your pics, I normally use 640 x 480, because I can do that with one click, once you'v done that, its just follow the dots. Go to your accounts (top left), my photos, and away you go. I spent hours trying to load photos, until I reduced them from the size in my computor.

I might be a bit wary of some one advertising on E-bay, I'd want a reliable second oppinion, or it might be the last you see of your locomotive. Ian S C

                      Hi Jeremy,

Yes, it's almost certainly a Purley Grange and it looks quite a nice one. Whereabouts in the country are you? I might be able to put you in touch with someone who would at least give it the once over for you.

I'd offer to have a look myself but I've already got two restorations on the go and need to get those finished!

PS where was the photo of your father in law running the loco photo taken?

img_1299.jpgThanks for the help with the photos Ian.

John, I clearly have not doen my research as I was not aware of the National 2.5 Gauge Association, I am currently living in Switzerland, near Crans Montana, but do get to the UK periodically, my plan is to try and find someone who would be interested in carrying out the restoration and then bring the locomotive over to the UK. and collect it when it is completed..

My father in law lived in Stoke on Trent and my wifethtinks the photo was taken either in Stoke or in Newcastle under Lyme.

Since my last post the photo with my father in law was taken at Smith's pool in Fenton.
