I have aquired an old manchester rapidor hacksaw as a project, the cast lever to engage drive is broken, so I need to strip it to repair.

There is a large round Nut (for want of a better description) with two threaded holes in it (one has an ez-out broken off in it ) on the end of the drive shaft on the outside of the large pulley.

Anyone Know how this comes off ?, is it nesessary to get the ez-out first ? or can I deal with it later once in bits ?.

        Cheers. Julian

Hi Julian, I have a Rapidor, from your description of the two threaded holes this sounds like a taper lock bush, can you post a picture, as there is quite a variation in designs and fitting on rapidors.

I have now made three attempts to contact Julian without success. I assume he must have solved the problem himself. I am disappointed to have no acknowledgement of my offer or even of my existence.

                    I give up!

I'm afraid that's just life on an open forum. Most people are polite and appreciative. You just have to ignore the others.

                      Russell.

Like Wikipedia, please assume good faith.

The poster was probably desperately searching for the answer, and having found it probably is distracted by putting the solution into action.

Yes it is poor practise to post a question and not let people know if it was solved elsewhere, but if we lambaste every new poster who makes an error of etiquette, other potential new members won't even bother to ask questions and the forum will eventually die out.

I would suggest not making repeat attempts, particularly not multiple PMs (as many existing forum members struggle with these, new members never notice the flashing icon.)

If the answer is more than a few sentences, the best policy with first-time enquiries is to ask for a bit more detail or just offer to help and see if the original poster takes up teh offer.

It's a thing we'v had in the past, someone opens a thread with a question, and after a couple of pages of answers, someone asks where is the original poster? And they are never heard of again.

                            Neil,

I am certainly not suggesting that anyone " lambasts every new poster" quite the opposite I am always ready to provide what help and encouragement I can to anyone who needs it especially beginners. All I expect is a modicum of common courtesy – it only takes a few seconds to say thank you or provide a short explanation using email or a posting on the forum.

In this particular instance Ian SC told Julian exactly how to open the PM.

I am certainly not lambasting Julian just a bit disappointed in the lack of communication.

Hi, without lambasting anyone, I think it's all to easy for most of use to assume these days that everyone can have an internet connection on a daily basis, some people may only be able to have use of such once a week.

                              Regards Nick.

True Nick, I usually go to the library if I want Broad Band so I can view U Tube, sometimes needed before answering a question, I'm lucky the library is about 1/2 a kilometre away. Julian could be miles away.dont know
