          Hello John,

Welcome to the Forum belatedly, we seem to have missed your appearance here.

Maybe a Raglan owner can confirm, but I don't think it would be difficult for you to answer your own question. The pitch of the screw will be easy enough to measure with a ruler, remember to measure to the same feature on the thread, if it is ACME then the thread flanks will have a tapered flank angle of 27 degrees included angle..

The diameter is across the outside of the screw and the nut will have matching features to be able work as a nut

          Regards

          Brian

            Brian,

Sorry to contradict you, but Acme screw threads have a 29 degree angle. Have you caught my fat finger disease?

              Hello Howard,

Thank you for putting me right, not so much fat fingers as a CPU failure from the neurone that controls these things!!

No need to measure the thread for pitch. Just turn the handle a known number of turns while measuring the quill extension. Most leadscrews, other than the threading one, were square thread form on Raglans. Ask on the freeforums raglan machine tools forum, or I can check a L/J tailstock as they are likely to be much the same.

No real need for the thread form either, if you need to make a nut, I would think.  One made from delrin would likely  be adequate, cheap and easy to make.

John, it does not matter what threadform you choose if you are making both items. What was it, btw?
