I need to make a bush to sit nicely in/on a pice of 48mm OD brass tube. It will be silver soldered in place. There is a picture below, sorry about it's size but it can be viewed from full size in my Sabine album. I would like advice on the best way to form thr 24mm radius to sit on the tube please.

      Thanks

      Bob P

How thick a wall is the tube? can you put a 16mm counterbore in the hole.

If not then maybe make the bush in two parts with a shaped sleeve that can be soldered over a standard top hat bush.

The tube is only @ 20 swg so not enough to counterbore.

I would make the bush in two parts. The two parts should initiallybe a loose fit. The inner part I would then knurl. The two parts can then be pressed together, finished turned and drilled through. Finally, it could then be soldered in place on the 20 swg tube. The knurling serves the two functions of forming a press fit and providing channel for the solder to flow into.

Jason and Michael have got your answer – a fabrication. That's the only way I've ever managed it.

Thanks all I'll make it in bits.

Jason, the profile on the bush looks similar to the one on your fine looking pith helmet. Did you fabricate that ?

                  wink

Sorry Jason I was referring to Tel's fine pith helmet!
