On page 23 I make reference to eccentrics having high rubbing speed and hence high wear. Whereas this is undoubtedly true, it isn’t relevant to this valve gear (Ouest) as it doesn’t have any eccentrics. I must have been having a bad day when I wrote that
I the final paragraph I say that I’ll be leaving Stephenson’s to others, whereas in fact it was covered in the early parts of the series. This is down to a miscommunication between Mr Editor and me (no doubt my fault). I did actually repent my decision not to do Stephenson’s sometime after the series on radial gears, but it got published first. As you all have been too polite to point out, Stephenson’s isn’t a radial gear
