I have acquired a 'Quick' cut knurling tool and wonder if anyone has used one of these and can help out with any information on use and adjustment.

I have stripped and cleaned the tool which seems to work fine, although I am not sure i have the worm gears controlling the movement of the wheels set up correctly. If these a way of ensuring these are in the right mesh?

Also, what is the purpose of the 2 countersunk dog point screws arrowed in the picture? They align with rebates in the wheel spindles but appear too short to do anything.

I asssume the allen screw arrowed below is a clamp for locking the wheel spindles. Does it have any other purpose?

As I have the wheels set, there is no clearance for long pieces, although the scalloped form of the tool would suggest that these should be accomodated. Should the tool cope with knurling longer pieces than the gap between the wheels and the body?

      Many thanks for any answers,

      Rgds,

I have the identical model, in fact it featured in Dave Fenners article.

Bought mine cheap with odd wheels, idea being to source another two and get a matched pair.

Didn't find anywhere so bought some for J&L with recessed holes in them but I don't think they do them now.

                    John.

                        J&L still do them.

you are looking for a Type 5 knurl and they have a 16mm hole in the middle to take the bush.

I had to make new bushes out of hardened silver steel for mine.

Cromwell also do them, search under Knurls and find the ones with a 16mm bore but they are more expensive than J&L [ as usual ]

Thanks all for the replies and suggestions. I bought a pair of wheels as suggestied by John S, made a couple of 16 mm bushes and the job is a good 'un! I also found some wheels with an 8 mm bore but have yet to try these.
