Just thought to post a few snapshots of this new rack I made for my quick change tool holders. Nothing earth shaking here, just a quick-and-dirty, TIG-welded stitch-up of some scraps of steel, finished off with a quick coating of clear cellulose lacquer to keep the rust at bay.
The rack is screwed onto the underside of a shelf above my metal lathe. My tool holders used to sit on that shelf, sort of willy-nilly… a total mess. With this new arrangement all the tool holders are cleanly spaced on those metal ‘teeth’, easily accessible and offering me a clear view of each cutting tool, not forgetting to mention that it is no longer possible for the holders to take an accidental fall.
Naturally, everyone’s shop situation is different, but for those of you who don’t have access to a welder I’m sure a similar sort of arrangement could be put together with cuts of thin angle iron screwed down to a plank or some such thing. Be creative.
