Question about Teco MiniCon VFD (11:57)

Does anyone know the maximum current that can be drawn from the +12 volt control output of a Teco MiniCon VFD. I have looked in the manual but can't find this in the specifications. The reason I ask is that I would like to use it to drive a relay which takes about 15 mA to latch the start/stop buttons.

All the inverters I've worked with have enough options for stop/start wiring to avoid the need for any relays – they typically offer momentary or latched options depending on how you wire (and possibly which options are set).

On the IMO inverters its a matter of milliamps on the 10V supply – I was pushing it with a 5K relay and a big LED!

I'd agree with Dave, there should be plenty of ways to wire up for momentary switches, just lots of head scratching first.

Take a look HERE to see how I did this for the IMO, which has start, slow stop and e-stop using two momentary switches and a standard e-stop switch. Should give you some ideas of what to look for in the manual.

Thanks David and Neil for your comments. I will have a more thorough read of the manual to see if I can find out how to configure the VFD so the forward and reverse inputs latch. I have now decided to mount the VFD in an enclosure to keep the swarf out which will require a fan. As all the suitable fans I have are 12 volts I will need to make a 12 volt power supply to feed that. I may as well make it large enough to power the LED light on the lathe. Neil, Why did you not use the 24 volt output on the IMO as that is rated at 50 mA. The 10 volts is only intended a stable voltage for the speed control potentiometer.
