      @bogstandard
I have recently aquired one of the above lathes, with both turret and tailstock setups.

Unfortunately, it didn’t come with any drive system.

This one is for bench mounting not cabinet, so the drive system needs to go behind.

If anyone has any info, such as pulley sizes or ratios, motor size etc, I would be very grateful to hear about or see it. Or if anyone has a spare one under their bench for sale, even better. Or maybe even a swap for one of the five turret units that came with it.

I fitted a direct drive motor to it when it came thru my hands a couple of years ago, but now I think I would like to get it back to original as possible because it is so complete other than what has been mentioned.

I’ll be very grateful for any help on the subject

This has all been brought up before. As far as I and the site admin are concerned, there are no problems. It is Google doing it’s thing and not being updated after a hack attack on the site a couple of weeks ago.

If you use IE, you shouldn’t get the message.

So instead of destroying my post, you have warned everyone about such problems, can we please not bring up the subject any more.

Just don’t go there if you are worried.

The only thing I know about these is that Howard at http://www.myford-lathes.com has sold one relatively recently, and he might either know something about powering them, or possibly be able to put you in contact with the person that bought the one he had.

Nice little lathe though! Five turret units?

                      Bogs,
Have had a couple of Pultras –  (still have one plus a spare bed) both 1750s but the drive setup is similar for both sizes. The ‘Full Monty’ on a stand mounted job was a Mardrive unit complete with clutch and pedal operation etc. When I bought my first example, I wrote to Smart and Brown to ask for advice and availability of spares. Very helpful people and they sent a copy of their catalogue of spares. If that would be of help, I can copy it for you. As far as drive arrangements go, failing the Mardrive unit, I would suggest my remedy which was the Sherline DC motor and controller. Gives the right sort of speed range and excellent control.

                        Bill,

I would be most grateful for a copy of the catalogue, that would be of great help, as I should be able to find the correct diameters and sizes and such by scaling from the pictures. I will of course reimburse you for any costs involved. Just let me know how you intend to dispatch them, either electronically or snail mail and I will sort things out for you.

I could in fact fit a full electronic DC speed control and motor, as I have a couple in my spares cupboard, but I would really like to refurbish it to as original as possible.
New lathes I do what I want with them, but one such as this deserves to be as original as possible.

I actually have the foot shaped bronze operating pedal, but everything between it and the lathe is missing.

                        Thanks again

If this idiot software allows this reply, I’m very happy to copy the catalogue for you – email or snail for delivery – as you wish. Might take a day or so to complete but will let you know when it’s ready. No charge, of course – like others, I already owe you for your freely given expertise – much appreciated.

Have just unearthed the Pultra catalogue etc. and my memory failed to remember that quite a lot of it is already second generation copied material and twenty plus years ago copying at that
I would suggest, therefore,  that the best bet would be to send you the lot by post and then you can copy which bits you wish and maybe take notes of anything which doesn’t copy well.
If you PM me with your postal address I;ll get it off to you soonest.

I have already sent you a PM before reading your reply here.

I would like to thank you most graciously for your very kind offer, and gladly accept it.

Modern day scanners and software can work wonders nowadays, even with very faded drawings.
