      I havefairly equipped shed with student and bridgeport, would like to get into steam/Sterling engine models but have no experience in following plans, only really done repairs, measure and copy. Where do I find plans/ ideas. Cheers

            If you can go to the Midland Exhibition, see advert on the right of this page then you will get plenty of ideas as to what you may wish to build. Once you know , ask on here someone may be able to help with plans. There are also books on the subject. Good luck, Noel.

              I recommend Stewart Hart's PottyMill as a starter project. It's been discussed many times on the forum, for example here, and the plans are widely available on the internet. I built mine from this version, which is rather cramped and unconventional in glorious technicolor, but I found no mistakes. Stewart is a forum member and a PM to him (see Inbox in Green Banner above), might get you a copy of his conventionally drawn originals. Stewart's version is a good example of a typical model engineering plan. It's worth studying both!

              For Stirling and various other engines, try Jan Ridders. (His website starts in Dutch, so press the 'English' button top left.)

                You could do far worse than select something from Hemmingway Kits the drawings are clear and they come with full build instructions as well as including all materials and fixings you need. I sometimes ‘do a Hemmingway’ just for being able to machine and not think or order stuff.

                regards Martin

                  And there are engine plans on MEW, like the Muncaster Simple Entablature engine.  https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=139596&p=1

                    Jason's 'Jowitt' build is also still up on Model Engineering Website (including drawings for personal use) – Part one here;

                      Have a look at Jan Ridders work. He will supply one or two plans if you ask. I built one of his vacuum engines and found the plans easy to follow.
