I bought an SX1LP mill from ARC about 3.5 years ago. Today I discovered an issue which I could do with some advice on. I discovered that the top plate of the spindle sleeve appears to be separating from the sleeve itself. Currently there is about 3-4mm between the step on the sleeve and the plate.
The bolts are loose – I had started to dismantle things to see what is going on!
The unit seems to be considered a single part in the parts diagram (item 100) and in the descriptions of the strip down and reassembly of a similar mill. The plate appears to carry the top bearing for the spindle.
I presume the part has been made it two sections and welded(?) together – hopefully before machining for the bearings.
Has anyone seen a similar issue? Does anyone have any suggestions for repair? I have asked ARC if they have suggestions or availability of a spare part although I am not sure I have the skills to strip and rebuild the spindle!
Panic over, thanks to a very kind phone call from Ian(?) at Arc this morning. Excellent service as always.
It’s not the collar slipping – it can’t, it’s one solid unit and they all have that groove and mine has been like that from new. It was just that the DRO mounts had slipped exactly the same distance as the width of the groove – hence my jumping to the wrong conclusion!!
Thanks again to ARC for excellent service.
