      Hi Graham,
Here is a slightly modified version of a diagram I drew for another thread ("do i need reverse" 09/04/15)

The reversing switch was bought from Arc Eurotrade and NVR can be bought from Arc Eurotrade or from ebay.

If you mount the capacitor on the motor you will need another piece of connector block in the motor connection box.
I am adding your picture to this post so it is easier to read in future.

      Les.

Hi, Z1 and Z2 are the start winding, is that how you have it connected? The windings are almost always different, usually the start windins is more turns of thinner wire, and hence has a higher resistance than the run winding.

PS i found a website that helps to interpret motor plates

          http://www.gibbonsgroup.co.uk/blog/2014/03/understanding-a-single-phase-electric-motor-nameplate

          Graham thanks for the link.

Might be worth while getting , Electric motors in the home workshop. workshop practice series No 24, should be available from one or more suppliers on this site, also a multi meter if you don`t already have one.

Good Morning Les thank you very much i will order the switches i will probably have some more questions when they arrive.

Bodge i have both workshop practice books and a multi meter also the model engineer's handbook chapter 12 but with electricity i like to double check or you could have a shocking time.I have learnt a lot from books and magazines but with electricity i like to read about it and double check with people who know about it.

Thanks again to you all for your time and trouble. Graham

                Hi Graham,
The mains lead will come into the box where the switches are mounted. The earth lead will need to earth that box (assuming it is metal.) , The frame of the machine and the motor. You will probably have to use a terminal block to connect all the wrth wires together. It is impossible to say what the best way is without seeing the machine construction. You are correct that you link A1 to the C terminal next to terminal 5. It is wired that way so that when the reversing switch passes through the off position it caused the NVR switch to drop out. This is to avoid going straight from forward into reverse.

                Les.
