OK I’ll put my query here, though this isn’t specifically about notifications.
I had a PM from Dave, (contents immaterial to this reply).
Notifications worked as expected, I had the (1) on my green bar and received an email; it’s was where i’ve circled in red on the first screenshot.
I did “reply”, rather than sending a brand new message as a personal reply to him.
However, when I now view my Messages menu(s)
What does the fuschia circled (2) mean? Dave sent I replied, this is my inbox, with no messages awaiting viewing.
Unread & Delete, what do they mean? I assume delete is obvious, but I don’t want to test it as I’ll lose the message.
Unread, does mark as unread in my inbox; does that then reflect in Dave’s Sent Items tab??
In my Sent items tab on the old forum, the view showed whether the recipient had read the message.
I can’t see any such indication obvious here
The fuschia circled (2) is still there
Unread & Delete look the same; I’m sure I’ll be able to delete this, as I was able to delete a different message from my inbox; how can I Unread a sent item??
It looks like, rather than just getting a local copy of my mail sent to Dave, I’ve actually sent it back to myself as well as to him
Still in my Sent Items, I have now “Unread” the sent message to Dave.
Note that the left hand blue circled text is now emboldened, showing it as unread.
N.B. This is a sent items folder; Green Bar Messages now shows (1), but I’ve only changes something at my end as far as I can tell.
My sent item shows as “Read” This makes it look like dave has read it; I’ve no idea where he has read last night’s message or not.
The Fuschia circled 2 adjacent to our names is still there; when I checked my new forum display of previous messages sent on the old forum, even though I has multiple interactions with individual members, this figure always showed as (1)
The two messages circles were to the same member, Lxxxxx, but both showing as (1)
Top message to Iaxxxxxx also shows (1)
Unfortunately due to the vagueries on the English Language, the words “Read” or “Unread” are misleading here in the sent items box.
It seems to tell me that I can Read/Unread my own sent message(s), rather than telling me whether the recipient has read it. (i.e. past tense read; meaning he has opened and viewed it)
On conventional eMails you can request a read receipt, which is variously returned automatically by the destination eMail program, or sometimes volunteraly by the recipient.
N.B I do note that Read/Unread/Delete are in an “Actions” column, but of course that header scrolls off the screen as you read down a list of messages.
Edit;
Further confusion, I’ve just realised that when I “Actioned” my Sent message to Dave by clicking on “Unread” in my Sent Tab, it also changed the status of his message to me in my own Inbox tab.
The same happens vice versa
Another edit, another query;
I’ve just tried to send Dave a second reply to his message to me; there doesn’t seem to be a Reply option.
I can generate a brand new message, but don’t seem to be able to continue a message train for continuity.
I can start a new message, but not continue our previous conversation/exchange.
