      @jasonb

      Just had a PM about an old PM that has prompted me to post this.

      The only indication you will get on the site is a (1) next to messages on the green bar, you won’t get the flashing envelope like we used to have so keep an eye out.

      You should also get an e-mail notification of any message so just check the first one does not go into a spam folder. There is no way to alter this as anyone who has looked at “Prifile-Settings-email” will have seen that there is nothing to tick after it says “send me an email notification when………”

      More joy and it has been passed onto admin.

        Thanks for explaining that, Jason … it had me bewildered when the eMails started to arrive, as I didn’t recall opting-in to any such arrangement.

          Think yourself lucky Michael, Up to just before going live the “Notify me” box at the bottom of the editor defaulted to being ticked. So all the mods had several hundred e-mails to both our member, moderator, and any other test name accounts

            OK I’ll put my query here, though this isn’t specifically about notifications.
            I had a PM from Dave, (contents immaterial to this reply).
            Notifications worked as expected, I had the (1) on my green bar and received an email; it’s was where i’ve circled in red on the first screenshot.
            I did “reply”, rather than sending a brand new message as a personal reply to him.

            However, when I now view my Messages menu(s)

            image_2023-10-28_133147781
            What does the fuschia circled (2) mean? Dave sent I replied, this is my inbox, with no messages awaiting viewing.
            Unread & Delete, what do they mean? I assume delete is obvious, but I don’t want to test it as I’ll lose the message.
            Unread, does mark as unread in my inbox; does that then reflect in Dave’s Sent Items tab??

            In my Sent items tab on the old forum, the view showed whether the recipient had read the message.
            I can’t see any such indication obvious here

            image_2023-10-28_133908906

            The fuschia circled (2) is still there
            Unread & Delete look the same; I’m sure I’ll be able to delete this, as I was able to delete a different message from my inbox; how can I Unread a sent item??

            It looks like, rather than just getting a local copy of my mail sent to Dave, I’ve actually sent it back to myself as well as to him

            image_2023-10-28_134318254

            Still in my Sent Items, I have now “Unread” the sent message to Dave.
            Note that the left hand blue circled text is now emboldened, showing it as unread.
            N.B. This is a sent items folder; Green Bar Messages now shows (1), but I’ve only changes something at my end as far as I can tell.
            My sent item shows as “Read” This makes it look like dave has read it; I’ve no idea where he has read last night’s message or not.

            image_2023-10-28_135724939

            The Fuschia circled 2 adjacent to our names is still there; when I checked my new forum display of previous messages sent on the old forum, even though I has multiple interactions with individual members, this figure always showed as (1)
            The two messages circles were to the same member, Lxxxxx, but both showing as (1)
            Top message to Iaxxxxxx also shows (1)

            image_2023-10-28_143621088

            Unfortunately due to the vagueries on the English Language, the words “Read” or “Unread” are misleading here in the sent items box.
            It seems to tell me that I can Read/Unread my own sent message(s), rather than telling me whether the recipient has read it. (i.e. past tense read; meaning he has opened and viewed it)
            On conventional eMails you can request a read receipt, which is variously returned automatically by the destination eMail program, or sometimes volunteraly by the recipient.

            N.B I do note that Read/Unread/Delete are in an “Actions” column, but of course that header scrolls off the screen as you read down a list of messages.

            Edit;
            Further confusion, I’ve just realised that when I “Actioned” my Sent message to Dave by clicking on “Unread” in my Sent Tab, it also changed the status of his message to me in my own Inbox tab.
            The same happens vice versa

            Another edit, another query;
            I’ve just tried to send Dave a second reply to his message to me; there doesn’t seem to be a Reply option.
            I can generate a brand new message, but don’t seem to be able to continue a message train for continuity.

            image_2023-10-28_145157150

            I can start a new message, but not continue our previous conversation/exchange.

              N.B. Please note that I tried to go back to the previous post, to add a header suggesting that most members ignore it, as it’s long, and is a bit obscure.
              The post is really intended for Admin/Developers as an issue report.
              Unfortunately since it took a long time to compose the post, my “Edit” time window of ½ hour passed before I could complete the content.

                The bracketed (2) indicates how many “items” in that pm exchange.

                For example I have one I sent to another member, they replied, I returned that reply and they replied to that. So 4 items and the message has (4) next to it

                Probably a bit better than the RE, RE, RE, RE heading you used to get on the old forum with another RE added to the title for each exchange

                  Cheers Jason, I did wonder about that, but was confused by all my previous messages, carried over from the old forum only having a (1), even though they were part of a multiple message exchange.

                  Still curious though; previously I could add a second reply to an incoming message if I realised I’d forgotten to add something.
                  It might be me, but I can’t find a way to do that now, so have generated a second completely separate message to Dave.
                  Maybe if I’d waited untill he’s responded to my reply, with a second message to me, I might have been able to reply to that one and generate a contiguous set of messages.

                  I’m not trying to be a pain – honest. 🙂

                  p.s. Just out of curiosity, but maybe relevant to you as Mod or someone as Admin;
                  I’ve edited this post about five times to correct typos, and to add this p.s.
                  Now that I’ve found a way to remove, or at least hide the Edit Log via the tickbox, are you able to see my past edits?
                  I have a good reason for asking, which I’m not typing here, so feel free to PM me.
                  Thanks

                      Thanks, would you mind dropping me a PM at your convenience,
                      Cheers

                      Edit, in response to your earlier answer, I’ve just checked my sent items, which show a (1), so presumably if and when Dave answers, that will increment to a (2) etc.
                      I stll think it’s a bit misleading when that a sent item has an “Unread”  to its right.
                      I now know it means I can change its status in my own messaging box(s) but it really looks like he’s not opened it yet; he may well not have done of course, but how would I know? All I can tell is that he hasn’t replied yet.

                      image_2023-10-28_162729765

                      A further edit, I’ve now managed to send a second reply to Dave as a test message to our initial interaction.
                      The count seems to have increased to (3) from (2) so it does seem to be working as it should.
                      I’m really not sure what I did different this time, but a “Send a Reply” editing pane, appeared at the foot of the message train.
                      It’s where I expected to find one, so I’ve no idea why I didn’t see it previously; again, maybe more coffee required, or it’s these new specs I’ve just collected  😉
