Went into Primark my go to store for shirts, nothing fancy just casual everyday ones plain or small check usually, no fancy prices, used to have counters piled high with them, now nothing, wandered back and forth in vain.

Is this the end of the world as I know it I ask.

        I'm gutted.

You can’t win discovering that my favourite shoes were being discontinued I bought some for stock. While tucked away in my wardrobe the soles decomposed due to hydrolysis, that was a waste of money. I think they should make clothes like catering crockery that never gets discontinued. Levi’s decided that the classic Levi jacket needed extra pockets, well it didn’t and I hated the Mk II version, moved on to a leather bomber.

Around here, there are loads of bungalows and they are mostly populated by people of pensionable age – I include myself in this demographic – consequently the charity shops, which nearly outnumber the nail bars, are rarely short of nearly-new shirts. My wife brings me a plentiful supply at about a pound or two each, all freshly laundered. I dislike clothes shopping with a passion, so it's perfect for me.

I anticipate restocking the shops myself when my number's up.!

Same with everything. Just can't find a replacement large soup bowl of the same depth (ex ASDA) – current fashion is wide and low. Good thing about willow pattern was they at least sort of matched so one could get odds bits in boot sales. Not so much around now.

And they did it with lathes. The Drummond M-Type was not fancy but pretty good for a simple functional machine for hobby use. Blow me if after only 30 years even Myford stopped making the copies.

There is a fortune to be made by some young entrepreneur, when my jeans wear out I want to just type a code off the label into the interweb and a new pair exactly the same appear as if by magic. I tried this in M&S, took in the old pair said I want a new pair just like these. The sales lady was bemused, the fashions have changed sir.

Does it look as tho I care? I just want something that fits, keeps me warm and preserves my decency.

                  But do you want holes?

(I always imagine that whoever came up with this acid-wash holey jeans thing is sitting somewhere laughing his head off).

"You're the tenth person this morning that I've told that i don't get any call for them"

I used to get a free pair of safety boots annually, but each pair lasted for at least two years.

This caused my wife to ask if i was becoming a centipede!

When, eventually, I put a pair into muse, the soles split, or the heels fell off, so they all had to be scrapped. What a waste of comfortable safe footwear.

It seemed that the oil resistant soles were the problem

                    Howard,

If Rohan ever stop making their iconic Bags trousers you will hear my curses in Australia. Pretty much live in them.

Couldn't live without the double pockets with full sized inner zipped portion. Phone and glasses case with the other pair in it safely in right side, immediate access money in left. Outer part of pocket for normal pocket duties. Maybe a bit on the light side but I get 2 years plus out of two pairs worn one on one off and washed weekly. Dry fast if they get wet too, unlike jeans. Just have to remember not to try welding in them!

I get them in the twice yearly sales and accept whatever colours they have overstocked.

Not cut for the more er "rotund" person tho'.

                        Hi Peter,

I often ask myself the same question regarding jeans full of holes.

Whoever came up with that idea must indeed be laughing his head off !

Thinking back to my working days, I was a trend-setter and never knew it, since most of my jeans ended up ripped to bits or full of holes and got dumped. They would be worth a fortune now !

What do people see in them ? Am I missing something ?frown

Back in the 70’s (the 1970’s) jeans preworn by cowboys were imported to the UK at a substantial premium. I never got my head round that one as being very hard on clothing my jeans had a brief period of being distressed before final disintegration. Working on my bikes often got my jeans filthy but my mother was a laundry magician and they reappeared in my wardrobe spotless. Denim was supposed to be a robust material for working clothes but I think the stuff we buy today is far from hard wearing. The company workwear we were supplied with took a lot more abuse than modern jeans will.

Talking of shoes, went out to lunch with family last week, grabbed a pair of black shoes I had from M&S a few years ago, haven't worn them that much, arriving at destination and someting felt strange underfoot, no heels to be precise, they just fell apart. Wouldn't have minded so much if they were a cheapo pair but M&S are not the most expensive shoes you buy but neither are they cheap.

Still had a nice gluten free full english breakfast at Fosso Lounge Wells, any other Coeliacs amongst you guys?

The lounges bars have restauarants all over the country and they have really nailed the GF thing, comprehensive GF menu. Just need these venues like ME exhibitions and Goodwood Festival of speed I recently went to (otherwise fantastic day out) to offer something, usually have to take sandwiches.
