Some of the chemicals in thinners, such as Xylene, are carcinogenic. As are some of the chemicals in Naphtha.

Some paint suppliers recommend doing a finish wash/wipe with the appropriate thinner. I follow their advice.

Aluminium will form an oxide layer almost instantly in air ! Any cleaning should be done just before coating / painting. It is a surprisingly reactive metal and some chemicals will rapidly disolve it ! Noel.
