Very nice design, and of course beautifully built Mr Hart.

Shame that Model Engineer editor never published the design and build series. Not that many designs for Grasshoppers around compared to other layouts, especially for 'bar-stock' construction, and those that do exist are not 'beginner's' designs like yours.

Thanks for all your interest chaps.

I wrote the article for this engine as a follow on from the other two engines and as a lot of the parts were common I referenced back to them. Now with the passage of time it really needs a stand alone article, that I did start to write but never finished, so I guess I need to get my act together and finish it off.

Well I've just spent the afternoon finishing off the article it hasn't been easy to pull it together as all the pictures are spread around and its some time since I made it so its tasked my memory a lot. I'll email it off to the editors on Monday:- then its up to them.

I hope it does get published, there are countless articles featuring complex models but the beginners often seem to get forgotten. The grasshopper is a super engine to build for those with limited experience or tooling and I'm sure it will get a lot of interest

As a beginner I second what Gas_Mantle says. I also hope this engine is serialised in ME but as they are already doing a beam engine I will not hold my breath. I hope that I am proved wrong (a regular occurance ) this engine deserves magazine space.. many thanks Stew.

A big thanks to the editorial team for publishing my grasshopper article.

Anyone following the article and are interested in building the model will know that it uses a Laser Cut fly wheel. I've been in contact with the company that supplied my wheel "Laser Master" to warn them that they may have some enquiries for the fly wheel and they are more than willing to supply them they can be contacted at sales@lasermaster.co.uk

I don't have any commercial arrangements with them just a happy customer.

If anyone has a mini lathe ie. Chester Conquest Super you will have to use a flywheel of 7" Dia. or less. The flywheel for the Stuart Beam Engine should be a suitable substitute .

For those with a budget the 7" Flywheel from RDG may be another option.

Stew, do Lasermasters have the drawing on file? or do builders need to contact you for it. I've also used them a couple of times without problem.

I used a slice of pipe 142mm x13mmx 6.5 mm a lot smaller than 7 inch but looks in proportion.,another option if you fabricate the flywheel .
