lots of people post links by including the website address in text. This is a pain in the ****, in fact if I'm using my phone I don't know how to follow them, and even on the PC it's a lot more fuss than a proper link. Doing them is easy peasy, so could contributors please oblige

Or both for convenience/sourcing, as per MichaelG's posts.

I believe some people do this for security reasons …. you know where you are being directed this way, whereas with a link you could be directed to somewhere nasty. (Yeah, there are ways to read it but not everyone seems to know.)

The same with posting links to YouTube videos please. If you click on the YouTube icon just next to the Link icon then follow the instructions to click on Share on Youtube and copy the Embed code into the box. Easy peasy.

It is just a couple of keystrokes and you will get way more viewers of the video because they can A. see the opening image and title of the video and decide if it is of interest to them or not and B. just click on it and go straight to it. I don't bother to look otherwise. Too time consuming to get through to YouTube via copy and paste link etc and then I might not be interested when I actually see it.

Interesting that you should mention that ^^^, Hopper

I don’t understand why …but the Embed option doesn’t appear to be available on some videos

… I tried to embed this one last night, but had to resort to using a link:

                  **LINK**

                  MichaelG.

                  .

If someone can do it … please show me how

Embed works OK for me, maybe depends on device, I used W10 & Chrome

Under the video on Youtube click "share" then click the Embed option and on the screen that comes up click copy and that is what you paste here when you have clicked the youtube icon.

                    embed 1.jpg

                    embed 2.jpg

                    embed 3.jpg

If nervous about clicking a link, most browsers show what the actual address is when the mouse pointer is hovered over the link (and not clicked!) It's not obvious, bottom left in Firefox, and often off the bottom of the screen. I've screen captured Peter's link and highlighted it in a red box:

Thanks, Jason … I guess it must be an iPad peculiarity

Interesting. I tried it on my ancient (that's 10 years old in today's parlance) Samsung S2 Android phone and there was no embed option under the share icon. But on my newish HP W10 laptop, there is. With the increasing use of phones and Android tablets I guess that makes things hard for many people. This really is the Cornish boiler of websites!
