Pollard 1FX drill spindle lubrication

Hi All,

I will appreciate any help on how to lubricate the spindle bearings on this Pollard Corona bench drill. It’s been unused for at least 10 years and runs fine.

Is the nipple on top of the spindle pulley used to lubricate the spindle or the splines? Is it for grease or oil and what do I use to get it in there?

The  spindle bearings are probably sealed – if there are no lube nipples. If you need to repack them then use a high melting point grease of the type used as general lube on cars. DO NOT over pack, this will cause trouble. The nipple you show may well be for the splines and an ordinary grease gun will do. if you cannot get grease in just oil from the top. Good luck. Noel.

I tried a grease gun but the nozzle didn’t fit nicely and the grease just pushed out. I really should have thought of removing the nipple before asking. On removal I found that it and the hole below is blocked with hardened grease.

I tried to remove the bush and the pulley by wedging them upwards but they both remained firmly in place.
