From what Neil has previously said and what was shown as the likely cover it will be “4762 March 2025”
Let us hope so. The first person I spoke to said the numbering system wouldn’t be continued so I called back to check and spoke to a second person who confirmed. I told them they would be 127 years of tradition coming to an end …
What’s a poor publisher to do? Doubletop wants to retain ME numbers, but others might insist on carrying on with MEW numbers!
Reasons behind the merger matter. From what’s been said, this isn’t happening because MEW is failing. Problem more that ME is in decline, perhaps perceived by newcomers as a specialist publication for elderly rich men precariously balanced on tiny steam locos. (Most unfair.)
Not about ME rolling on unchanged whilst unloved MEW bites the dust. Other way round! As the merger will be different, wise to number the new mag from scratch. This avoids problems when potential readers notice the “NEW MAGAZINE”, is approaching issue 5000!
Consolidation makes sense, but, although I’m not expecting radical change, Neil & Diane have to bring in new customers. In that context, I can’t get excited about serial numbers! I buy magazines for their content and only need the pesky rag to be numbered and dated, don’t care how.
