I subscribed to ME digital back in March as a new series interested me. I infrequently check on pocketmags and when I do I download any new issues to my tablet.

I had another look today and find my last issue was 4753, the latest available should be 4757 so I am 4 behind. Is there a problem or am I failing to do something?

      Pete

(and yes I have updated the App since the recent Android update)

You really need to contact Pocketmags or the publishers. There is a contact form at the bottom of Help

Since the change of software the moderators cannot access any subscription details.

You should be getting an email from Pockemages every couple of weeks when the latest issue comes out.

The new viewer accessed from this site now allows a full issue to be downloaded

If the mags have amalgamated why are therte two subsciptions still available?

Cos the amalgamation hasn’t happened yet!

I think Neil mentioned that the mags were going to be merged was leaked prematurely.

This must have broken Mortons plan.  A plan certainly sequenced not to tell customers anything until all the necessary ducks were in a row.

As is, the leak leaves subscribers guessing because important details are missing.  All will become clear after executing the plan sorts out subscriptions and a mass of other dependencies, but it’s work in progress, unfinished!

Whoever leaked this news has caused a lot of confusion and must be extremely unpopular.  Unless it was Mortons’ Managing Director!

I have contacted Mortons and the option to renew ME should be turned off or will very soon, also no emails going out inviting people to take out a sub and then just get the one issue.

                        A Pocket Mags problem

                        Pete

                        This problem persists for me.

My subscription runs into March and I am just getting renewal notices. However, PocketMags stopped at issue 4753. I got on to them and they gave me the re-activation instructions. I  need my subscriber ID I have no idea where to find that.

I have been down loading from the archive, and have up to issue 4757. Today I tried to log into the archive to be told “The credentials are valid, but no active subscription was found!”. It is February and my subscription runs to March.

Where  do I go from here please to get this sorted?

It would be if I had the printed copy but I only have the digital version. No doubt there was an email confirming my order but I can’t find it so I’m trying to establish the backup alternative

But as you suggested that, I thought I had better have another go at finding the subscription email, I don’t know how many times I have tried. Regardless, it is now found and I have my customer ID and confirmation

                            First issue: 4738 08/03/2024
                            Last issue: 4763 21/02/2025

Reactivation of my pocketmags account now gives me up to to issue 4759, not the current 4761 and logging into the archive I still get the error “The credentials are valid, but no active subscription was found!” very strange problem at Mortons it seems

                            I have emailed them.

Just a thought, but is Pete contacting the right vendor?

As I understand it, the digital mag can be bought direct from Mortons, or from PocketMags.   As PocketMags are a different organisation they probably have a different subscription system.    If there’s a problem with a PocketMags account, I imagine Mortons won’t be able to sort it.

I empathise due to bother with my pesky Bank at the moment!  I simply want to reset access to my account from a laptop, and no joy.  Fortunately my main computer still works or this would be a crisis rather than just a frustrating time-waster.  In the event of failure the bank’s online advice says I’m to contact my ‘Estates Officer’.  Who?  Seems Estates Officers manage the accounts of dead people.   I know I’m unwell, but that’s a little presumptuous…

                                🙁

As the error message is being given when trying to access the Archive (this site) then the problem is with Mortons (Classicmags) so it was right to contact them. Correct that and then the Pocket mags one should sort itself out now that the subs number has been found.

Also be aware that 4761 is the last ME so you won’t get upto 4763.

That may well explain the problem. As soon as 4761 was issued my subscription was ceased and so did my access. I always wondered what happened to access when a subscription ceased and the subscriber hadn’t viewed or downloaded the latest issue(s).

How many others are affected? The ME issues have now ceased but subscriptions are still valid beyond 4761. In fact requests for renewals have only just started coming to me, after my access was closed.

Maybe my question is answered by the fact that I emailed Mortons and am still awaiting a reply. Possibly they are being flooded with similar queries

I would have thought you should still have access up until 21st Feb at least, maybe a bit longer to allow you to read the issue.

I would also have thought that as you have paid for 62 and 63 which won’t be published the balance from thos etwo should at least give you access to one issue of ME&W

Did you contact Mortons or ClassicMags? Try going to Help/FAQs then right at the bottom is a contact form for subscription issues, fill that in and you may have more luck than an email.

I have also noticed a slight change in Archive access since this morning so things are obviously being altered ahead of the new title and that may have thrown a spanner in the works for you.

I have just talked to Mortons. They are going for sort out my account so I get the missing 4760 and 4761. The remaining issues 4762 and 4763 will be the March issue of ME&W.

Apparently the numbering system will change so the first issue of ME&W will not be 4762.  Will that create an outpouring of angst as 127 years of tradition comes to an end?

UPDATE – So I called back to check and yes 4761 is the last of the traditional numbering system. The next issue will be called “March 2025”

Let us hope so. The first person I spoke to said the numbering system wouldn’t be continued so I called back to check and spoke to a second person who confirmed. I told them they would be 127 years of tradition coming to an end and they said it would be. However, if Neil has confirmed with them then great. I was only talking to the subscriptions team.

The way the last 2 months have panned out it seems that the whole change over has been done on the fly. That the cat got out the bag in mid December should have made little difference, by that point the plans should have been already formulated – it seems this was not the case ! No mention in 4761 that this was the last of 127 years of serial numbering or even the end of an era ! I hope that Neil will be able to convince Mortons that the numbering is important and it will continue ?

I have been an ME subscriber for almost 40 years and renewed my subscription in mid December 24. I took MEW up to 312 as a subscriber.

As for what I’m going to get for my money, the cover price of the 2 weekly issues was £5.10 what will the price of the new monthly be ? The letter from Mortons says that THE VALUE of my remaining subs will be transferred, whilst the item in 4761 smoke rings says I will get the same NUMBER of issues as I paid for. I paid for 26 issues, even on the monthly issue will I still be getting that number ? Or will I be paying a cover price of £10.20 per issue ?

I have not as yet Contacted Mortons, I will let their plans roll out and see what happens !   I live in hope all will go well.   Noel.

What’s a poor publisher to do?  Doubletop wants to retain ME numbers, but others might insist on carrying on with MEW numbers!

Reasons behind the merger matter.  From what’s been said, this isn’t happening because MEW is failing.  Problem more that ME is in decline, perhaps perceived by newcomers as a specialist publication for elderly rich men precariously balanced on tiny steam locos.  (Most unfair.)

Not about ME rolling on unchanged whilst unloved MEW bites the dust.  Other way round!   As the merger will be different, wise to number the new mag from scratch.  This avoids problems when potential readers notice the “NEW MAGAZINE”, is approaching issue 5000!

Consolidation makes sense, but, although I’m not expecting radical change, Neil & Diane have to bring in new customers.  In that context, I can’t get excited about serial numbers!   I buy magazines for their content and only need the pesky rag to be numbered and dated, don’t care how.

Noel, better to go by the official letter that came with the last ME which states the remaining VALUE will be carried over to the new title.

I believe the price of the new title has been mentioned by Neil in another thread.

Dave, The  NEW MAGAZINE and it’s numbering approaching 5000,  Will anybody be fooled by a new numbering system, when it states on the front cover ” est 1898 “, I hope not. Noel.
