Just had a look at the EDM group. It is very much more difficult to get an overview of activity now.

      Ah well. What fun.

      Regards,

      Richard

If you are a user it's not too bad but for owners and moderators it's a nightmare.

One group I run we moderated the first posts then let them run free. Old system you got a flashing message saying pending post, then went on, read it changed the user to unmoderated and allowed the post.

New system, no message and you have to go hunting for pending posts, then you get edit, allow or delete.

Only way to take the member off unmoderated is search thru the members list and manually do it – real pain.

However all is not lost. If you run firefox and run this add-on [ done it and it's safe ] you get the old Yahoo back on all your groups.

          nice one John

just installed it and had a quick look and it works just fine

im not a mod or owner of any groups but i did miss the old look. the new one is too fiddly and stuff is hidden

as a user im happy with that add-on

I don't use twitface so perhaps I am an innocent.

But I have no gripes with the new Yahoo format.

The one thing that is constant in life is change.

I agree that the new Yahoo format is a step backward.

I noticed the following are problems created by the new format:

              1) If you are researching a topic, it is no longer easy to follow a thread.

              2) Threads can "vanish", although they are still there if you know where to look, but someone who asked a question and went on holiday for a week or two could go back to the site and not see a perfectly good reply to his/her question. You wouldn't even have a "clue" that a response had been provided. This does not apply if you get every single posting, every hour of the day. Maybe that's the point of this change-you WILL get every posting emailed to you or you won't access Yahoo.

              3) Researching photos uploaded by a person known to be an expert on a certain subject is much more difficult than before. For a site with thousands of photos, it does not make sense to try to page though the photo albums.

There are solutions to these problems and I've found some of them, but even then, it's made the process painful.

              Paul

                  JS,

Just had a pop up advising that forthcoming !yahoo groups changes are going to break the modplugin.

The creator is looking for funding!

Not sure if I want anything to do with those MORONS at !yahoo! anymore.

Geoff – Was going to give JS a kiss for restoring my yahoo sanity, but thought better of it!

Yahoo Groups are history. I must admire the patience of the IT people who look after this forum who actually interact with the (cranky) members to listen and react to the concerns of the subscribers.

That is a most welcome interaction. Well done!

                      Danny,

Must admit Yahoo groups are old but they suit some people.

Because of the hassle they are going thru at the moment someone on a group I run has offered to do a PHP web based page, however the users are against this as many never view the web site and rely on the emails, either separate or a daily digest.

I used to run a program called PGOffline, it's broken at the moment because of this Neo rubbish, but this program allowed you to download messages to your hard drive so you could read offline.

With this it was possible to keep complete groups on your computer in case anything went wrong. Somewhere i still have all the posts from the old Myford forum before it vanished.

Hard to do this on web based forums.

I've just tried to visit the Yahoo groups that I subscribe to and just keep getting redirected to the 'new' BT home page. Have I missed something? I haven't tried JS's link – I use Chrome. A google search for Yahoo groups didn't turn up anything relevant to not accessing groups.

                        Thanks,

                        John

The link I put up no longer works, Yahoo have circumvented it.

Well, Curiouser and Curiouser! I just went to the Yahoo Groups bookmark that I always used – which had begun directing me to the BT home page – and i got straight to the Yahoo Group page!

                            Thanks for the replies though.

                            Happy New Year!

Yahoo's chief operating officer has unexpectedly departed the company just over a year after he was hired to turn its advertising business around.

I wonder who's going to be next to hire his unique skills set…..
