We had a members only play day at one on the model steam clubs that I belong to and chance to let off steam. A special guest also brought along his recently finished Fowler ploughing engine which was built over 7 1/2 years.

Nice track and models, and I loved the steam powered skateboard.

That'll be Ross driving his Plougher without due care and attention.

From Wikipedia: Bankstown is a suburb south west of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 16 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district.

The Fowler looks to be about 3" scale. Is that scaled up from one of the well known 2in JH designs?

                Kind of.

There a build log on traction talk that tells the story

it is 3" scale, but I am pretty sure it is designed from scratch, not scaled up from another design. Ross doesn't do that sort of thing; he ploughs his own furrow so to speak. I've been an avid follower of the build diary on TT. The only downside is that sometimes one feels like following the advice of the late JohnS, ie, take up knitting rather than pretending that I can build a traction engine.

The castings for the 3" scale single cylinder ploughing engines came from Station Road Steam but much of the design was modified. The boiler design had to comply with the Australian code. Other engine detail copied from full size drawings and photographs. Ross is an expert machinist and has been playing with steam engines since he was a boy and has built a number of engines.
