Dont know about lubrication, but you could do worse than replace that simple switch with a proper NVR type.

Drills have been known to come to life after a power failure. It,s an interesting experience if you happen to be in the line of fire !.

I just apply a little oil now and then, about once every 5 years or so, if I think of it. It,s not a Formula 1cheeky

As no-one else has chipped in; your drill bears a passing resemblance to my Fobco. This has 2 lubrication points.

One, for the spindle bearings, is on the quill, revealed by extending the quill fully downwards. The other is the spindle pulley bearing which would be immediately above the "I" on the Elliot nameplate. Does a screw visible in your picture give access to an oiling/grease point?

The other need is to lightly lubricate the quill itself.

Hope that helps at least in some measure

Larry/Clive. Thank you both for your suggestions. I did think the switch looked a little out of place!

Ah yes, those are the grease points as you rightly pointed out. They were thick with dirt etc. so, having cleaned them out, I might now be able to introduce some grease. Thanks

Looks very similar to my WWII era Atlas (thanks to Lend/Lease) In addition to what Larry and Clive have chipped in with do not forget to put a smear of light oil on the splined top end of the quill where it passes through the pulley hub.

As an afterthought, search on t'interweb for the US Army service/parts manual for the Atlas gives you all the oiling points and other useful gen.

                Edited for the afterthought!

Thanks Martin. The drill is certainly running a lot quieter, now that it’s had some lubrication. I’ll have a look for those manuals.
