I am picking up on this build from a number of years ago, a good piece of the work has been done and now it is mostly snall fiddly stuff…I would like to make the linkages out of non ferrous …brass bronze and copper, would that look out of place.
By the title I would say its a James Coombes engine.
Its unlikely to have been used on full size engines of this type but if you are not worried about historical accuracy then brass would be the best of your three materials
It's a purely personal matter – and it's your model – but I think brass would look entirely wrong for the linkages. OTOH, steel parts with (where appropriate) bronze bearing bushes would look just right; the contrast would create the right effect. Copper, of course, would be totally unsuitable because of its softness and it is horrible to machine.
