A mates just bought a RAV4 Hybrid, hopefully it’s been sorted?! 😆
Well, keeping it in perspective, in the past few weeks, Toyota have just recalled 102,092 ICE vehicles for a full engine replacement. “There is a possibility that certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles, this can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a loss of motive power. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash.”
Other ongoing recalls: “22 vehicle models for equipment issues” details later this month, plus “33,848 cars, trucks, and SUVs due to a label displaying an incorrect load-carrying capacity “.
Ask ourselves a few questions:
- Does the RAV4 fire concern relate to hybrids in general or is it because Toyota are going through a bad patch at the moment?
- Is there any solid evidence that hybrids are more likely to catch fire than other types of road vehicle? Assertions on the internet without data or a reference are not, repeat NOT, evidence. So far the only source I’ve seen that does quote numbers turned out to be a pile of elephant droppings!
- In general, when trawling the internet, how does one tell the difference between truth and lies? A great deal of internet material has severe quality issues because so many posters favour beliefs, emotions, wishful-thinking, blame culture, lies, ego, and jumping to conclusions over cold-hard facts.
