Perfecto power shaper pulley wheel size

Hi all,

having just taken delivery of a Perfecto shaper minus motor, I am in need of the dimensions of the small pulley which fits the motor end. Can anyone help me out please?

It looks very similar to my Adept which really goes too fast. Go as small a possible so get a motor with a small shaft size.

Sometime I should try it with 6mm round belt to allow a smaller pulley. I have a 1/2hp but must try 1/3 as I'd like it more compact.

Hi Simon

One of the catalogues indicates that, with the proper size driving pulley on the motor, the Perfecto 3 sheave pulley will give 60, 70, and 80 strokes per minute. If you know the 3 sheave pulley dimension and the motor speed then you should be able to calculate the motor pulley size. Looking at pictures it looks in the region of 1.5 to 2 inches.

Hi Simon like Bazyle I too have an Adept shaper, however it is using pulleys with Perfecto cast into one of them. The diameters are 7 inches and 2 1/4 inches, I too thought it was going too fast as well and converted to angle drive. See below,,,,,,,,,,,,,pretty sure it is 10:1 reduction. Gordon

Assume you have the original machine 3-step pulley, max dia 8¼".

The motor pulley on my Perfecto 5" shaper is 1½", 1¾", and 2" dia.

These are the dia at the rim of each of the 3 steps. Width of belt groove is ½" at rim. Takes an 'A' section belt.

I believe the 7" was the same.

Original motor was ¼ HP, shaft thinner than the norm today.

Your thoughts on the speed are 'noted' but probably for future attention.

Phil, yes it appears to be the original 8" or so pulley so I know what to make or hunt down. I managed to find an A series pulley just a little larger at 2.25" which I will try as a starter – I think it came courtesy of one of the meaty alternators I had awaiting a use in life. Stand is now almost complete and next task is bushing the pulley as well as locating a suitable a suitable sized donor for pulley #2 – no 10:1 reduction boxes lying around unfortunately

Bazyle, to run the Super Adept from an electric motor, you need a counter shaft. My little lathe came with the original counter shaft, the motor pulley is about 1" dia, that goes to a 6" pulley, from that there is a set of three pulleys matching the ones on the lathe. Motor speed 1450 rpm. My motor is a shaded pole type ex a cash register 180 Watt.
