Can anyone tell me where I might find a biography of Percival Marshall, the publisher of Model Engineer, i.e. date and place of birth, life history, dateand place of death etc?

The death of Percival Marshall was announced in the ‘M.E.’ for April 22nd 1948. The April 29th edition carried an unsigned eulogy, thought to have been written by J. N. Maskelyne. This was reprinted in the Centennial Celebration Collection No. 10 “Model Engineer, the first 100 years”.

The History of the SMEE “100 Years of Model Engineering” also carries some information in Appendix A “Presidents of the Society”

Thank you Geoff – exactly the source information that I require. I will follow up those leads.

Although I was never a subscriber to ME myself, my father was, and in 1956 I sold his collection of the magazines dating back to the mid 1930s which gave me enough money to buy a motorbike – a secondhand BSA 250cc! I sometimes wonder whether a similar sale today would provide enough cash to do the same.

              Vernon,

I’ve sent you a PM, which may add to your details.

              Regards,

                Hi Guys,
Thinking of Percival Marshall, if any of you chaps think you are suffering from Tinnitus, perhaps you are not but merely hearing the sound of PM spinning in his grave.
