Pages missing from digitized Cincinnati Milling book

The 3rd edition (1951) of 'A Treatise on Milling and Milling Machines' has been digitized by google and is available at http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89089665160;view=2up;seq=6 (thanks MichaelG for the link).

Unfortunately either the copy they digitized is missing pages 67 and 68, or they skipped them by mistake (I've let them know, via their 'Feedback' link).

While it doesn't appear likely they will contain vital information, I really would like to see them for completeness. So if anyone has a hard copy of those two pages that they could share, I would be most appreciative.

Attached are copies of relevant pages from my copy. My dad worked for Cincinnatti all his life and this was his copy.

I worked at Cincinnati from 1975 – 1985, but at their Bedford and Biggleswade factories which provided the NC and CNC controllers for the UK built machines in Birmingham. From about 1980, industrial robots (Mainly for Volvo Sweden) were being sold. The Biggleswade site had formerly been the site for the manufacture of gear hobbers (Weatherly Oil Gear Co) and broaching machines – The largest of these were about 30 ft long.

Thanks for those images Colin. I'll convert them to pdf and insert them into my soft copy. It may be some time before Hathitrust get around to fixing their copy. They are nice images, it's a pity that many of the Hathitrust images suffer from severe moire effects. It looks like you and your dad are men after my own heart – a 65-year-old book that is undoubtedly well read yet appears to be in really good condition.

I live about eight miles from Bigglewade and I also have a good friend, Peter King, who used to work for Cincinnati, same period as you, as a service engineer. I met Peter when I joined ABB Robotics, Milton Keynes, also as a service engineer.

My dad started there in about 1937 and worked there until he took early retirement at around 61. He worked all round the world for them including India, Russia and Iran. He started on shop floor, worked up to one of the senior service engineers and ended up quite high up. He went to Iran as an advisor at machine Sazi Tabriz, but the deposing of the Shah caused a few problems. I spent 3 weeks out there. He is still going strong at 95 and although he has a lathe tends to do marquetry now. In fact we used to have a Cincinnati vertical miller at home.

Got an email from Hathitrust yesterday:

"Thank you again for your feedback. We have restored pages 67-68 in this volume. Please let us know if you see any further problems with the volume."

All in all, that's a pretty good response to a problem pointed out by a 'Joe Bloggs' on the other side of the world. Wouldn't it be nice if all business would respond like that.
