I should add that I always mention that work has been done or parts replaced or made when selling.

Ok. How would I do it?

        On my home gear. .
        Well for two to ten.

        File flats. .filing rest lathe/indexer
Turn taper towards head stock. .forward knife tool.parting off in process.
        Repeat for all parts.

Take ( even bar end if ness) stock.mark jaw and stock
Drill hole in stock to match a/c of flats.
        Slit improvised collet..
        Return to marked position.
Use this fixture to chuck parts and finish cone as required ( do you really mean cone to ZERO radius? ).
        ..
        For hundreds?
Well pretty much the same..but I would rig live tooling on cross slide and turn with point to tailstock and part off finished

Martin, if I were making them, I'd probably use stainless steel, that would give something like the correct colour, a little more difficult to machine than brass, but at that size no great problem.

This is a removable point so you can push the end of the tube through a cork, right? The cone is bigger than the hole and the stem needs to be a reasonable fit in the hole.

Why not just turn a cone and then turn a cylinder behind it to be a snug fit in the square hole?

Trying to visualise what this Milne tap looks like. I can see that a champagne tap is to allow you to reseal a bottle of fizzy wine but can't find an illustration of a Milne champagne tap using the mighty search engine. It's against my religion to leave a bottle of fizz unfinished, so this isn't an attachment that computes – but it's still intriguing.

              Anyone help with a picture?

Hi Murray… let me Google that for you

                Try the first link

Strange – the first image on your link is the picture of a milne tap from the first result on my search!

                  milne 1.jpgHi All,

Used Jason's metheod, turned 2 cones on each end of pieces of stock then over tto the mill using square collet indexer. Took my time creeping up on the first sqauare section then used the smae setting for all the others with a stop fro the projection wnd a rear stop fro the indexer.

Amazing how quickly you can do a job like this once set up for it; did 5 pairs in about 30 mins.

Thanks for all the help and advice, much appreciated!
