Is it just me? I'm trying to work out where the steam comes in. Is it just when it overheats

Are we having our legs pulled gently for April Fools' Day? In addition to the 'Electric Steam Carriage' the front cover also promotes 'A Wooden Traction Engine' and 'Perpetual Motion' – it's all a little suspicious!

On reading the article, mention is made of a single cylinder internal combustion engine

Maybe the graphics person doing the front cover could not fit "electric horseless carrage" in across the pagesmile p

I still remember the B&W film of Italians getting in the spaghetti harvest shown by the BBC midlands news.

My mum saw that, believed it and raised us thinking it grew on trees!!

Wooden traction engine? Wooden work. cheeky

Electric steam? You get that when you boil Electric Kool-Aid. (All part of the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test process, for those not around in the '60s).

MEW this month had the Sky hook for reading in the bath.

We used a reference book by ‘The Refigerateted Steam Company’ back in the 1970s. It was a superb little book. I can’t remember if that was the title, part of it, or if there was another actual title. It was a hard back about A4-ish and about 20mm thick.

I would love to find a copy, but am unable to unearth any referece to it on the net. It was obviously printed some time before I came across it. I can’t remember which specific information we used it for – possibly flue gas temperature and measurement for sampling gases from large ducts for dust testing.

                        Anyone help?

Poor me. I expected the Wooden Traction Engine to be a joke and it's actually a fine model. Craftsmanship well out of my league.

Sad to say I fell for the MEW Sky Hook. I saw myself luxuriating in a hot perfumed bath with a glass of wine, surrounded by candles, sprinkled with rose petals, and reading a first edition Machinery's Handbook. Not sure I'll ever get over the disappointment…

I suggest that the term 'steam' has the same significance to the modern generation as 'vintage' – in other words it means 'old and so I don't understand it'

And my guess is that the cover is designed and written by a sub-editor. As in sub-standard.

                            Cheers, Tim

Dave, forget your glass of wine [which can be good, bad,or indifferent ],forget also your 40 odd blends of Scotch and get yourself a bottle of real whiskey, such as Bushmills .Then, pour and relax ————-!

                              I might add,I have no connection with the company,except as a very,very,satisfied customer,many times over !!

All your disappointments will just melt away, for a while anyway !!
