Back in the 60's If my memory serves me right, I saw some old volumes describing how to make a auto Tapping device out of an early 3 speed bike hub

Somebody else out there must be able to help

The only possible reference I can see is 1958 Vol 119, no 2994, page 467, by W. Oliver, "A tapping attachment for the lathe". This simple device speeds up repetion work.(taken off the index on the web). It does not say any more about it, you would need to find a copy, if you'r a club member maybe your club has a collection. It was based on a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub for bikes, which incorporated a sun and planet gear, much like commercially available tapping devices. John
