Printed the plans off, including the missing pages. making this 1:1 scale as per the plans as I had some 1/4 brass plate just the right size.

A bit of milling, sawing and filing………….

Plans show tapped holes as 2-56 UNC ~ mine are 8BA. Cylinder in cast iron

as you can see from my avatar I made one only I used aluminium and made it 1and a half scale.  more pics in my album.

Hi David, the brass frames look smashing. I made one with aluminium frames in 2x scale – my eyesight couldn’t cope with the tiny fixings. I also changed to metric fixings. I built mine as a sort of learning project to give me a focus for trying to learn all the various techniques needed. Seemed to work although my engine shows many of the mistakes I made along the way! and yes at plan scale it is like watchmaking (I guess having never done any) but it is a good way for me to improve my model engineering skills and accuracy having worked in heavy (steam) engineering for the last 30 years, and it means I can buy more workshop miniture tooling !

 

Hugh ~ love the video and really like the “air supply manifold” ~ guess what my next project is when I’m struggling and getting frustrated with 10BA and fancy a rest from the OBG beam?

I thought when I first saw it that it would be a unique build but it seems everyone and his uncle has made one, plan size, twice size ,half size ,one and a half like me.

 

It certainly is a popular model.

Got a little friend to help me keep motivated, seems along time since doing any of the “OldBoatGuy” beam

 

Just one little mistake in the second cut out “bling” ~ oh well hopefully it will blend in with a little riffle file

I must admit, the beam looks a lot better with the recesses in it. I might take mine to bits one day and have a go.

I must say, I managed to build mine without the missing pages by enlarging the plans to full size and measuring straight off them.

 

it seemed to work.

 

I really must try to get a video of mine working.
